Beth’s Story

The skin is the largest organ of the body so if it doesn’t function as it should, normal life can be anything from uncomfortable to downright impossible. I’ve lived with dry skin and eczema all my life and – most recently a persistent skin infection – so I can testify to that. Over the years I’ve managed with help from various health professionals and a large range of remedies, both conventional and alternative. Frankly I could open a pharmacy!

So when I saw an advert by the charity Skin Care Cymru saying ‘Skin problems? WE NEED YOU!’ I was intrigued. I wasn’t sure what I could offer, but wanted to know more. So I attended an informal meeting with a bunch of friendly people all of who have been challenged with skin problems ranging from uncomfortable to life threatening. Encouraged by the discussion, I could see that there was great potential for mutual support and information – so I joined the Swansea area Dermatology Patients Panel! We are planning to have talks by health professionals and give feedback about our experiences to the local dermatology department. I would invite anyone with similar challenges to come along to a Panel meeting and find out more. Trust me – your experiences will be really valued and there is real support and encouragement!
